hey everyone,
welcome to the first episode of the things i found online and thought were cool
apps and tools
✦ (not boring) camera — i’ve never been a huge fan of 3D interfaces on mobile, but damn, this app is software design at its absolute best. haven’t had this much fun playing with apps for a long, long time.
os.ryo.lu — i’ve already mentioned this in the intro post, but let me spell it out one more time: someone built a fully functioning macOS-inspired operating system from the early 2000s in the browser. you can play doom, listen to music, or chat with a computer — whatever.
freewrite — a simple writing app for mac that got me into the concept of freewriting (and don’t miss this nice introductory video).
✦ bauhaus clock — an absolutely stunning screen saver for macOS
deskminder — a beautiful app by dmytro chuta that lets you create timers right from your desktop
reading
letter to arc members — an essay by josh miller of the browser company on why arc browser story has come to an end (sort of) and what’s next
✦ honkish — 2,000 words by benji taylor on how they designed honk. looooots of screenshots, and delightful animations. honk app was definitely one of a kind.
a (new) new.computer — one of the most exciting ai projects i follow just pivoted to creating a social intelligence
links / videos / special mentions
✦ dyson keynote — james dyson being james dyson for 9 straight minutes, showing how simple and wholesome tech keynotes can be.
first of kind podcast — an exploration of design pioneers
